Lighting In and Around a Property
What type of Lighting do you want to have around your home?
Do you want a street lamp when you park in the driveway on a dark night?
Or - do you not like to have light coming into your house from outside? Anyone who can't sleep at night if the room is not pitch black?
Some families will want the extra safety of street lamps for children playing in the yard after dark or other reasons.
Somehow - the last two homes we have built have both had a street lamp in the front corner of the lot. Lot's of light would come into the upstairs front bedroom window at night, keeping the occupant awake. This required extra curtains and blinds to block it out, and of course, greater expense on window coverings.
Now the street lamp in front shines thru the glass block windows in the Master Bathroom!
So - the Lesson Learned is that nice decorator touches like glass block can lead to other issues that you don't realize may exist until you live in the property.
And, if possible, go to the area of the property you are considering at night to see what the lighting is like, and how the neighborhood and yard feel in a different time of day scenario.
Dramatic outdoor lights at night can also add to the value of the property.
A variety of systems with timers that turn the lights off and on automatically are available.
But remember - as pretty as these enhancements are - they will add to your electric bill!
