Comfortable Carpet Use

There really are dozens of places for carpet use in your home!

Carpeted rooms are comfortable & warm!  Home interior designs with carpet used extensively in specific rooms appeal to many buyers and renters.  You usually want carpet in your bedrooms and family room.  Most people walk barefoot in areas with carpeted floors and children play on the floor.

Floors with carpet are warmer than tile, hardwood or linoleum even over a concrete foundation due to the padding below the carpet.  Choose which areas of your home need to have a carpet on the floor and then look for wall to wall carpet installed in these rooms, or consider buying an area rug with the correct dimensions.

Carpet is easy and fast to clean with a vacuum, soft to stand on, reasonably durable & not slippery for small children, pets or older folks.

It can be glued down, installed over padding or just cut and fitted to a small space.  Thinner carpet with a rubberized backing will not shift when cut to fit a small space and does not need to be professionally installed.  This is a great option for rental properties or military housing.

But - have you ever considered wall to wall carpet in kitchens or bathrooms?  These rooms usually have tile or hardwood floor which can be cold in the winter even in southern climates in the United States.  It is easy to buy indoor / outdoor carpet and cut it to fit these smaller rooms and spaces.  It can be easily cleaned up from spills and is very durable.   Carpet is softer to stand on over padding, but not as likely to shift or wrinkle when glued down.

We had a galley kitchen in one apartment with a really ugly linoleum tile floor.  After measuring the area we went to one of the large home improvement stores & purchased only two and a half yards of carpet for less than $100.  The carpet edges curved up under the cabinets and we cut it out around the refrigerator & stove.  Then all we had to do was vacuum the kitchen floor!  No more smelly and wet mops.  Spot carpet cleaner removed any stains and the carpet dried quickly.  This cut our kitchen clean up and maintenance time in half, and most crumbs caught in the up turned edge which could be removed with a utility hand vacuum.  When we moved, we just rolled up the carpet & took it with us.  The same piece of carpet was used again in our next garage cut down as a mat in front of a workbench.

Small tweed or berber carpet makes excellent  kitchen, bath or laundry room carpeting.  Laundry rooms where you may stand extensively to iron or fold clothing are another great candidate for carpet treatments.

Another source of carpet are actual home carpet sales companies who have left over remnants from  home installs.  These remnants are often large enough to cover a small bedroom, bath, kitchen or office at a very low cost for high quality carpets.

One family we know had tan tweed carpet in their kitchen and a heavily trafficked  breakfast room for over 25 years while raising three boys!  When they remodeled their kitchen they replaced the floor with more carpeting which still looks great after another 15 years.

Outdoor rugs are very popular now and are made from very durable materials which get wet from the rain and then dry quickly - over and over.   Front entry way area's and porches are perfect places to use carpet.  Using carpet in these locations can reduce how slippery these areas become when they are wet.
