Model Home Review for Stone Creek

Calera, Alabama is South of Birmingham about 20 miles on Interstate 65 in a beautiful area with gently rolling hills and green countryside.

This is an area of Alabama where you might find farms with old homes and some manufactured homes scattered around the two lane roads.

But - there are also some relatively new home communities built in a subdivison style you would expect to find closer to a downtown.

Stone Creek is located just north of Calera, Alabama. It is a small neighborhood of several streets ending in cul de sac's.

As you can see from the pictures the homes are small (1100 Sq. Ft. to 1500) with up to 2 car garages and small yards. The community pool is starting construction.

The price of homes ranges from $132, 000 up to about $150,000.

Calera has a new Super Walmart near I-65 & new businesses are visible along with a SYSCO Distribution facility.

The model home was open, so we took a look at what type of "Livability" a small floor plan house provided.

The front door opened directly into the Living Room, which flowed back thru the Dining Area, and then to the Kitchen at the back of the house. A door from the Kitchen opened into the one car garage on the right.

Two Bedrooms and a bathroom were positioned to the left of the Kitchen and the Master Suite was in the Front left corner of the house off the Living Room.

This floor plan gives a nice separation of the 2nd & 3rd Bedrooms from the Master Suite, but would not be very suitible for a family with young children as you would have to run thru the entire house to get to the childrens rooms. Also, since the front door opens directly into the Living Room you will end up with a high wear pattern thru the Living & Dining room to get to the Kitchen. This is the type of house that would work best with all tile or laminate floors in the main living areas.

The Dining Room area included a nice designer touch with a Tray Ceiling detail.

If you take a look at the Kitchen you can see that the Refrigerator is sticking out into the Kitchen quite a ways just like our example on the Kitchens Page. This space might benefit from a lower profile depth refrigerator.

The crown molding is a beautiful additional design touch, but might be an additional option that you would have to pay more for.

Stone Creek Model Master Bedroom Front The Master Suite (Front Window of the room is pictured to the right) has a great elevated ceiling with a decorative window at the peak - adding a lot of light and making the space look bigger. It is currently being used as the office for the on site agent.

Overall - this seemed like a nice home and a good value for someone starting out.
